Exploring Literature and Writing

This fall, Hood River New School was honored to welcome two acclaimed authors, Eileen Garvin and Todd Mitchell, in addition to our in-house author, Ms. G! Students kicked off the year learning about idea generation and how to use sensory detail in memoir writing during workshops with Ms. Garvin. Mr. Mitchell, author of The Namer of Spirits, the all-school book club book, built upon the students prior writing experiences to explore detail and character development in narrative writing. Both authors were overwhelmingly encouraging and supportive of our budding student writers! Click through to read two examples of student work.
