Robotics Team Heading to State Competition!

New School FIRST Lego Robotics team, Catastrophic, is celebrating a major accomplishment, finishing first at the Bend regional competition this weekend and advancing on to the state championship.

Despite bringing home the Champions, Robot Design, and Robot Performance awards, Catastrophic’s coaches shared that their *most* proud moment was watching the teams exceptional display of FIRST Core Values. When they heard from a judge that another team had arrived without completed missions and their coach out sick, Catastrophic jumped in to help the other team with their robot build and mission code. Wow! What a great demonstration of FIRST Core Values, Catastrophic! New School is proud of you!

Team Catastrophic!

This is the second time in the school's history that the robotics team has made it to the state level, and the students and faculty are excited for the opportunity to compete against the best teams in the state. The team had been preparing for the competition for months, to tackle a big problem relevant to this year's theme -The Future of Energy - as well as building and perfecting a robot capable of autonomously completing a series of missions during the competition. Team Catastrophic identified that Hydrogen Fuel Cells and Modern Nuclear are important technologies in our future that people may fear. They produced a short, informative, and fun video to help and inform the community. https://youtu.be/WZmoeRapOec

On the day of the competition, the Hood River New School team performed exceptionally well, finishing first in their division and earning a spot at the state championship. The team's robot was able to complete all of the tasks with precision and speed, impressing the judges and earning them the top spot.

The state championship will be held next month. The Hood River New School team is excited for the opportunity to compete against the best teams in the state and showcase their skills and hard work. The team has already begun preparing for the championship, and they are determined to do their best and represent their school with pride.
