Hood River New School is an independent not-for-profit middle school that serves adolescents from the Columbia River Gorge area.
Hood River New School is a sixth-through-eighth-grade middle school that embraces interdisciplinary learning in a multi-age classroom. The New School was founded in 2021 by a community of parents excited to create a school that honors the critical growth and development window that occurs during adolescence — the transition between childhood and adulthood. We invite you to learn more about our curriculum, our staff, our locations, and why we believe mixed-age grouping and looping foster a thriving community and promote self-awareness, community responsibility, and integrity.
Our Vision
Through an inclusive framework grounded in building and maintaining positive relationships, Hood River New School offers traditional learning through a non-traditional lens. Providing a project-based curriculum, hands-on learning, and immersion in the natural world of the Columbia River Gorge, Hood River New School offers students an empowering educational experience that encourages lifelong learning and active engagement in their communities.
Our Mission
The goal of Hood River New School is to empower critical thinkers to approach the world with intellectual curiosity. We cultivate learners who understand personal responsibility and accountability. We foster independent reasoning and collaboration so that students learn to empathize with the people around them and the world in which they live.
